The Ministry of Immigration and Population is accelerating efforts to issue National Registration Cards (NRCs) and Unique Identity (UID) Cards through the electronic identification (e-ID) system by collecting both biographic and biometric data from basic education high school students.

As part of the programme, the NRCs and UIDs were issued at No. 8 Basic Education High School in Insein Township on Friday.

The Ministry said the project is being conducted to ensure eligible students are registered efficiently and can benefit from improved access to public services and socio-economic opportunities in the future.

Deputy Director, Insein District Office, MOIP, Bo Myint said "By conducting the NRC and UID card issuance process directly at schools, students can obtain their identification documents without disrupting their studies. The cards serve as official proof of identity for education and other administrative purposes. For those who have lost or damaged their documents due to natural disasters, conflict or displacement, we coordinate with ward administrators and issue cards in accordance with the 1982 Myanmar Citizenship Law. We hope these cards will help students access future educational opportunities, including study abroad programs."

In June, the issuance of NRC and UID cards was completed in 16 schools in Insein Township out of a total of 34 basic education high and middle schools. As a result, 1,914 students have already received their cards.

Student, No.8 Basic Education High School (Insein), Honey Htike said "Receiving these cards within a day will make it easier for us to travel and seek employment after completing our education. We are grateful to the officials from the Insein District Immigration Office under the Ministry of Immigration and Population, as well as our principal and teachers, for making this process possible."

The initiative is being implemented under the Lamin Project from June 1 to July 31, with the aim of supporting citizens’ socio-economic activities through a comprehensive national identification system.

A total of 76 basic education schools are participating in the project across Insein, Hlaingthaya (East) and Hlaingthaya (West) Townships within Insein District.
