Opening of (MCITP-2026) Shanghai : President opened the summit and delivered an address

The opening ceremony of the "Myanmar-China Investment and Trade Networking Summit" (MCITP – 2026) Shanghai was held in the morning on June 18th at the Radisson Collection Lingang Shanghai hotel in the Lingang Special Area, Shanghai.

The summit is aimed at maximizing the growth of foreign direct investment from China to Myanmar over the five-year period from 2026 to 2030, as well as promoting Myanmar's exports to China. The President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, U Min Aung Hlaing, attended and officially opened the event, delivering remarks on enhancing bilateral investment and trade cooperation.

Upon the President's arrival at the venue, he was warmly welcomed with traditional Chinese lion and dragon dances, as well as by officials and members of the MCITP, leaders and representatives from Chinese business organizations, prominent entrepreneurs, and Myanmar-China businesspeople. Following that, the President officially opened the Summit by pressing a digital switch.

Afterward, the President toured the exhibition booths set up by Myanmar and Chinese companies across various sectors, showing keen interest and engaging with entrepreneurs and representatives, asking questions and discussing the presentations made to him.

Subsequently, the President delivered a speech to the Myanmar and Chinese business people at the Dishui Lake Ballroom. In his speech, the President stated that this visit is aimed at promoting practical cooperation to deliver tangible benefits to the peoples of both countries through China's Belt and Road Initiative, the Myanmar-China Economic Corridor projects, and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). He also noted that Myanmar is seeking to accelerate regional economic integration.

He further emphasized that Shanghai, being not only China's economic hub but also a global leader in finance, trade, and technology, with the Shanghai Stock Exchange, Shanghai Port, advanced airports, and railway networks, presents tremendous opportunities for Myanmar entrepreneurs to collaborate with their counterparts in Shanghai. The President highlighted that Myanmar is prioritizing the invitation of investment in energy infrastructure, agriculture, livestock and agri-based processing industries, renewable energy production, education and health, as well as technology and digital services.

In addition, to meet the country's current needs, Myanmar is also encouraging investment in fertilizer production, public transportation, electric vehicle manufacturing, cement production, steel production, value-added agricultural and livestock products, and pharmaceuticals and medical equipment. He informed the attendees that since March 16, 2026, Myanmar has begun accepting foreign direct investment not only in US dollars but also in Chinese yuan, which would make it more convenient for Chinese investors to invest in Myanmar.

The President described Myanmar as a bridge connecting China to the Indian Ocean, playing a strategic role in China's economic growth trajectory. He expressed his delight at having the opportunity to discuss friendly cooperation and future prospects between Myanmar and China at this meeting. He encouraged Chinese investors to select the most effective sectors to combine China's market and advanced technology with Myanmar's strategic location, natural resources, and human resources for investment in Myanmar.

Following the speech, the Myanmar and Chinese businesspeople in attendance raised questions with the President regarding cooperation opportunities in disaster prevention and mitigation, post-earthquake reconstruction, the agricultural sector, hydropower and deep-sea port development, human resource development, and policy support for investments in Myanmar.

Union Ministers Dr. Kan Zaw and Dr. Charlie Than, provided clarifications on operational matters, and the President also responded to the inquiries. Afterward, the President held separate meetings with business people attending the (MCITP – 2026) Shanghai, engaging in mutual discussions on expanding business activities across various sectors, including trade and investment, between Myanmar and China.

Following the meetings, the President and the attending business people shared a lunch together, during which traditional Myanmar cultural performances and dance presentations related to Myanmar's economy were showcased for entertainment. After the event, the Myanmar high-level delegation led by the President departed from the "Myanmar-China Investment and Trade Networking Summit" (MCITP – 2026) Shanghai, where they were warmly seen off by officials and members of the MCITP and Myanmar-China businesspeople.
