









At the invitation of the President of the People's Republic of China, Mr. Xi Jinping, the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, U Min Aung Hlaing, is currently on a State Visit to the PRC.
In the afternoon on June 17th, the Mayor of Shanghai, Mr. Gong Zheng, paid a courtesy call on the President at the Peace Hall of the Fairmont Peace Hotel, where the President is temporarily staying. During the call, the Mayor of Shanghai extended a warm welcome to the President on his State Visit to PRC.
He then briefed the President on facts about Shanghai, as well as ongoing efforts to develop Shanghai into an international economic center, financial center, trade center, shipping center, and an international science and technology innovation center, in accordance with the guidance of Chinese President Mr. Xi Jinping. In response, the President stated that his visit to China aims to promote bilateral multifaceted cooperation, including Myanmar's development, enhance cooperation to achieve permanent peace in Myanmar, increase investments from China, and boost bilateral trade.
He noted that Myanmar is a country rich in above-ground and underground natural resources, possessing favorable conditions for successful investments. He also extended an invitation to Chinese entrepreneurs to invest confidently in Myanmar. Following this, the President and the Mayor of Shanghai cordially and openly exchanged views on prospects for promoting trade and investment between Myanmar and Shanghai, China.
After the meeting, the President and the Mayor of Shanghai greeted each other cordially and attended an honorary dinner hosted by the Mayor of Shanghai. Later in the evening, the President, accompanied by members of delegation, took a boat cruise along the Huangpu River to observe the evening urban development beauties of Shanghai.
First, the delegation led by the President arrived at the Huangpu Port in Shanghai, where they were warmly welcomed by the official in charge and personnel from the Oriental Pearl Tower, the tallest tower in Shanghai. Upon arriving aboard the vessel named Oriental Pearl 2, the official in charge of the Oriental Pearl Tower presented information in the reception hall regarding the development of the buildings along the Huangpu River.
The President raised queries on points of interest. The President then observed the urban development and river conservation conditions along the Huangpu River, as well as the recreation and social activities of Shanghai residents and he asked further questions on points of interest based on the briefings provided by the officials, it’s reported.
