Mekong Tourism Forum 2026: Forum hosted by Myanmar from June 14 to 19

The Mekong Tourism Forum 2026 and related meetings are being hosted by Myanmar, a member country of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), under the theme “Tourism for People, Travel with Purpose.”

The events are being held in person from June 14 to 19 at the Pan Pacific Yangon hotel in Yangon. As part of the forum activities, Union Minister for Hotels, Tourism and Culture U Maung Myint hosted a working lunch Tuesday afternoon for Mr. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism of Cambodia, who attended the Mekong Tourism Forum 2026.

During the luncheon, they held open and friendly discussions on regional tourism matters. Following this, a ceremony for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on tourism cooperation between Myanmar and Cambodia was held as part of bilateral tourism collaboration efforts.

The ceremony was attended by Union Minister U Maung Myint and Cambodia’s Minister of Tourism Mr. Huot Hak, who both delivered opening remarks before signing the MoU on tourism cooperation between the two countries. Afterward, the Union Minister attended the Myanmar–Cambodia Tourism Promotion Roadshow, which aimed to promote mutual awareness of tourism attractions in both countries, develop innovative strategies to increase bilateral tourism and cooperation, and strengthen collaboration between government and private tourism sectors.

He delivered the opening speech at the event. Cambodia’s Minister of Tourism Mr. Huot Hak also delivered remarks. As part of the roadshow program, participants watched the “Visit Cambodia” video showcasing tourist destinations in Cambodia and the “Myanmar Beauty” video highlighting Myanmar’s famous attractions. Officials from the Cambodia Tourism Board explained the current state of Cambodia’s tourism industry, while representatives from the Myanmar Tourism Federation presented information on Myanmar’s tourism sector.

Officials also responded to questions from attendees according to their respective sectors. Later, Union Minister U Maung Myint and Cambodia’s Minister of Tourism toured the Greater Mekong Subregion Food Exhibition, which is being held from June 15 to 17 at the Pan Pacific Yangon.

The exhibition aims to further promote traditional cuisine related to tourism among GMS countries and strengthen friendship and cooperation through shared culinary traditions and cultural customs among regional nations. The exhibition features 11 booths displaying traditional regional foods, handicrafts, natural mineral products, and SME products from GMS countries, including hotel and tourism associations from Myanmar.

In the evening, the Union Minister hosted a welcome dinner reception at the Lotte Hotel Yangon for Cambodia’s Minister of Tourism, heads and representatives of tourism authorities from GMS countries, and representatives from partner organizations attending the Mekong Tourism Forum 2026 and related meetings. The Union Minister also delivered welcoming remarks during the dinner reception, it’s reported.
