Meeting with IRC: Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker met with IRC

The Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw, U Khin Yi, accompanied by the Deputy Speaker, U Maung Maung Ohn, and officials from the Pyithu Hluttaw Office, met with members of the International Relations Committee Tuesday afternoon at the Hluttaw Affairs Building (I-5).

During the meeting, the Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker stated that 22 committees, including 4 standing committees, have been formed to support the functions of the Hluttaw. He noted that among these committees, the International Relations Committee met today is a crucial one.

He added that during this transitional period of the new government, the role of this committee will become even more vital in supporting the State. He further instructed the committee to work on re-engaging with the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), regaining engagement with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), striving to establish Parliamentary Friendship Groups with international parliaments, coordinating and harmonizing laws with international standards.

Following this, Dr. Pwint San, Chairman of the International Relations Committee, explained and discussed the committee's activities and future work plans. Committee members provided supplementary discussions, and the Deputy Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw discussed matters regarding the tasks to be carried out by the International Relations Committee. Afterward, the Speaker of the Pyithu Hluttaw reportedly toured and inspected the committee offices and meeting rooms, it’s reported.
