In the Monday afternoon, Pyithu Hluttaw Speaker U Khin Yi, together with Deputy Speaker U Maung Maung Ohn and responsible officials from the Pyithu Hluttaw Office, met with members of the Bill Committee at the Hluttaw Affairs Building (I-2).

At the meeting, the Speaker stated that the main responsibilities of the Hluttaw are lawmaking, coordination, and representation of the people. Among the four permanent committees of the Hluttaw, the Bill Committee plays a key role in the legislative process.

He explained that the Bill Committee is responsible not only for drafting legislation but also for reviewing whether existing laws remain relevant to current conditions. He further noted that there are over 100 existing laws enacted in both Myanmar and English languages, and that among them, outdated laws should be reviewed for possible repeal.

He also emphasized that laws supporting the country’s economic development, such as the Foreign Investment Law (FDI Law), as well as those protecting public health, such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Law, should be strengthened and made more comprehensive where necessary.

Following this, Deputy Speaker U Maung Maung Ohn added further remarks regarding the review and analysis of draft laws. The Chairperson, Secretary, and members of the Bill Committee then introduced themselves individually, and the Committee Secretary briefed attendees on the committee’s ongoing work. After the meeting, the Speaker inspected the committee office and meeting room, it’s reported.
