Monsoon Activity: President participates in tree planting activity

2026 State-Level Monsoon Tree Planting Event took place at Palway Forest Reserve in Nay Pyi Taw Deckhinathiri Township on Saturday.

President U Min Aung Hlaing attended the event, and made a speech, stressing the importance of forests for all living things, supporting to regulate climate, ensure food security, protect against natural disasters, and conserve water and soil. He added that Myanmar is the second most forest-covered country in ASEAN. However, forest coverage has slightly decreased from 42.19% in 2020 to 42.15% in 2025.

The President urged all to continue to stop deforestation and increase forest cover to 50%. He added that planting trees and protecting forests are the easiest and most effective solutions to climate change. From 2016 to 2025, over 269 million trees have been planted nationwide.

Forest conservation and sustainable management are strongly encouraged. He reiterated the government's plans to expand forest plantations, improve green development projects, and promote bio-economy, green economy, and circular economy activities. He called for public participation to achieve these goals.

During the event, the President planted Mahogany tree at the designated location, followed by planting of saplings by the dignitaries, departmental personnel, faculties and students. A total of 3,000 saplings, covering 16 different species were planted in the event. In addition, over 54,000 various saplings were planted across regions and states.
