The Myanmar Avocado and Fruit Festival 2026 opened on Saturday at Myay Padetha Kyun in Bahan Township of Yangon Region. The three-day festival, running from October 24 to 26, brings together agricultural experts, fruit growers, exporters, businesspeople and guests.
At the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr. Ye Tint Tun said Myanmar avocados have strong export potential due to their quality and nutritional value. He highlighted the importance of connecting farmers, producers, traders and exporters to expand international markets. He also stressed the need to improve farming techniques, fruit quality, cold storage and transportation, while encouraging the production of value-added avocado products to reduce post-harvest losses and support MSMEs.
Avocados are mainly grown in Shan State, Mandalay Region, Chin State and Kachin State. Popular varieties include Hass, Reed, Buccaneer, Pinkerton and Booth 7. The festival features 75 booths displaying locally grown avocados, avocado-based food products, agricultural technologies and farming equipment. Visitors can explore the exhibition free of charge.
