In the crowded streets of Bogota's San Bernardo neighborhood, Colombia, an area marked by poverty and drug trafficking, police are relying on artificial intelligence to help anticipate where crimes may occur.

The system, known as IAPOL and developed by Colombia's national police, generates maps of potential crime hotspots. Critics warn such tools can reinforce biases against disadvantaged communities, a concern police say is mitigated by human oversight.
