Ecuador said it will launch joint military operations with Colombia against organized crime as soon as president-elect Abelardo de la Espriella takes office on August 7, signaling a shift in bilateral security cooperation.

The two countries will begin coordinated operations "on day one" says Ecuador's Interior Minister John Reimberg, after years of strained relations under the outgoing Colombian government.
