The Olympic champion swam from England to France in 8 hours and 27 minutes, breaking the South American record.

The whole world watched on Wednesday, Olympic champion Ana Marcela Cunha from Bahia, Brazil swam across the Atlantic Ocean for the crossing between Dover, England, and the coast of France. The Olympic champion entered the water around 5:00 a.m. local time and fulfilled a dream she had held since she was 14, adding another international achievement to the career of one of the best open water swimmers in history.
