On June 1st, Ethiopia held parliamentary and regional elections that were widely expected to give Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and his ruling Prosperity Party another large victory.

More than 50 million registered voters were eligible to vote across the country. Jemo Condominium is one of the largest housing areas in Addis Ababa. During election preparations, authorities added extra polling stations there because of high voter demand and overcrowding concerns. Long queues formed at polling stations in the capital Addis Ababa, with some voters waiting since 2:00 am.
