A meteor exploded over the northeastern United States on Saturday, triggering loud sonic booms that shook homes across Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

According to NASA, the space rock packed an explosive energy equivalent to approximately 300 tons of TNT and was traveling at roughly 75,000 mph when it broke apart. NASA confirmed it was a natural celestial object, unrelated to active meteor showers, and emphatically ruled out space junk or satellite debris.
