







Myanmar National Olympic Council held a work coordination meeting on Friday at the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs. Chairman of the Council Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs and Hotels and Tourism Jeng Phang Naw Taung attended the meeting and made a speech.
The Union Minister stated that Myanmar established its Olympic Council on 27 January 1997 under the relevant law, with seven members serving as the initial body. He further informed that, in 2026, the committee was expanded to include eleven members and adopted sixteen strategic roadmaps.
The Council is currently working in cooperation with 52 sports federations for development of the country's sports sector. Furthermore, he emphasized that sports play a vital role in national development and that the Ministry not only promotes awareness of sports activities but also extends its support and contribution to the Southeast Asian Games to the best of its capacity.
He also urged concerned officials to contribute for the sport sector development. Following this, Deputy Minister U Htein Lin discussed that the necessary food supplies and equipment will be provided to the athletes to ensure their well-being and optimal performance.
He also highlighted the importance of establishing a systematic selection process for new-generation athletes as part of long-term human resource development in the sports sector. He also pledged that the Ministry will implement renovation measures for sports grounds and stadiums, as well as engage qualified foreign coaches to enhance training standards and athletic performance.
The meeting discussed the development of sports sector and affirmed that the Myanmar National Olympic Council will be reorganized and reconstituted as the Myanmar Sports Council.
