Science Fair 2026: 25th Silver Jubilee Research Conference

The 25th Silver Jubilee Research Conference and Science Fair 2026, organized by the Myanmar Academy of Arts and Science, opened on Thursday at the University of Yangon’s Research and Innovation Center.

Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission Senior General Min Aung Hlaing attended the opening ceremony and made a speech.

The Acting President emphasized the importance of research for national development, highlighting that modern nations prioritize scientific research and technological advancements. He encouraged to carry out research in various fields to drive progress and national benefits.

The Acting President also stressed the connection between education, science, and technology, urging the country to combine research and innovation to achieve sustainable development. He noted to preserve rich cultural heritage of the country while embracing modern technologies to build a prosperous nation.

Since its establishment in 1999, the Myanmar Academy of Arts and Science has been holding major research conferences to promote the development of science and technology in universities across the country. This year marks the 25th conference.

The festival aims to promote scientific research and innovation, encouraging the next generation of students and youth to engage in scientific studies and technological advancements.

21 departments from the University of Yangon participate in the event, selling foods and local products.  The visitors can buy local products and taste ethnic traditional foods with affordable prices and also participate in game programs.

Associate Professor, Botany Department, Yangon University, Pan Myat Nge said "Our department is selling plum, cape gooseberry, strawberry, watermelon, sandwich and organic tomatoes. Featuring the entertainment programs, other departments participate in the festival, selling Shwe Yin Aye, fishery products, ethnic traditional food and costume and ice-cream. Students from private schools also visit to the Yangon University to taste the foods and to buy local products. So, our department sells the food with the affordable price from 1,000 to 3,000 kyats."

Pyae Pyae, Final Year Student, Law Department, Yangon University said "Our department sells merchandized products like T-shirts and tote bags. Today, we are selling glutinous rice and Burmese fritters. On Friday and Saturday, we will sell spring rolls with tea and sandwich. The Science Fair galleries are on display from 5th to 7th February."

The event also aims to inspire students to explore new technologies. Furthermore, research papers from both domestic and international researchers will be presented, with awards for outstanding research.

Vice Director, Altai State Pedagogical University, Russia said "For about 2 years now, we’ve been closed partnership with Myanmar and public universities in Yangon. Our corporation licensed for teaching Russia language to the Myanmar Students. This year, we’ve been honoured to be invited to this wonderful event."

The festival will continue until February 7th, with discussions and presentations from both local and international scholars, focusing on topics that will contribute to Myanmar’s development in economy, security, and technological progress.
