Chairman of the State Security and Peace Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Services, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, delivered an address via video conferencing to senior instructors and trainee officers at the National Defence College (NDC) on February 3.

The Senior General discussed the transition of the state’s political landscape and the way forward for national development. The Senior General stated that the election was held in three phases starting from December 28, 2025. Approximately 13.14 million people cast their votes, representing over 54% of eligible voters.

He noted that some citizens did not vote due to regional security concerns, a lack of awareness regarding voting rights, or being prevented by threats, coercion, and incitement. The Senior General emphasized that all citizens must possess a strong sense of patriotism based on the nation's history.

He remarked that citizens often exhibit loyalty to specific individuals (personality cults) rather than to the nation itself. He urged a shift toward "correct" patriotism rooted in the country rather than individuals. He stressed the importance of honoring national characteristics, the State Flag, and the National Anthem.

He expressed disappointment over reports on social media that some individuals in cinemas fail to salute the State Flag or sing the National Anthem. He cited these behaviors as evidence of weakening patriotism and urged all citizens and civil servants to hold these symbols in the highest regard.

The Senior General pointed out that the past instances of corruption and misconduct among civil servants in economic and political matters were a direct result of weak patriotism. He discussed the necessity of implementing educational reforms and ensuring that civil servants perform their duties systematically.

He reiterated that national economic growth must be built upon the foundations of agriculture and livestock breeding. The Senior General concluded by urging the trainees to use their individual analytical skills to contribute to the country’s development, stating that their collective efforts would greatly benefit the future of the nation, it’s learnt.
