The Meeting (5/2025) of the Central Committee for Security Supervision during the Multi-Party Democracy General Election was held on December 16 at the “Arindama” Hall of the Myanmar Police Force Headquarters in Nay Pyi Taw.

First, the Central Committee Chairman, Union Minister for Home Affairs, Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, delivered an opening address. He stated that after the formation of the Central Committee and committees at various levels for security supervision during the 2025 Multi-Party Democracy General Election period, coordination meetings had been successfully held up to the fourth time to ensure the effective implementation of security-related tasks, and that this meeting marked the fifth session.

He further explained that the Union Election Commission will conduct the Multi-Party Democracy General Election in phases: Phase (1) in 102 townships on December 28, and Phase (2) in 100 townships on January 11, 2026. It has already been officially announced which wards and village tracts in the townships included in Phases (1) and (2) will not be able to hold free and fair elections.

For the townships where Phase (3) will be conducted, it is necessary to compile lists of wards and village tracts where elections cannot be held, in coordination with relevant departments and organizations, so that the lists accurately reflect the latest situation. As the Central Committee, actions have been taken to identify and take legal measures against those who attempt, by various means, to disrupt election-related processes.

He emphasized that continued efforts are required to investigate, identify, and effectively take action against those engaging in incitement and propaganda that could undermine election security. He also stressed the need to prevent security breaches during the various election periods and, in order to ensure regional stability, community peace, crime reduction, and the rule of law, instructed forces and departments under the command of the Ministry of Home Affairs to coordinate and cooperate with the Tatmadaw, People’s Militia Forces, public security and counter-terrorism groups, and partner organizations, building upon the progress already achieved and accelerating implementation efforts.

Subsequently, Chairmen and Secretaries of the Regions and States Committees for Security Supervision during the Multi-Party Democratic General Election explained township- and region-specific election security plans tailored to local conditions, the current status of implementation, and progress in regional security and law enforcement.

Members of the Central Committee and the Vice Chairman, the Deputy Minister of Defence, provided additional comments and suggestions. Then, a representative of the Union Election Commission presented further discussions. Based on the discussions, the Chairman of the Central Committee, Union Minister, provided necessary supplementary instructions, after which the meeting was concluded, it’s learnt.
