







The 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities commemorative ceremony was held at the Assembly Hall of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement in Nay Pyi Taw on 3rd December.
Attending the ceremony were Chairperson of the National Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Union Minister for the Ministry (4) of the Office of the President U Tun Ohn, Vice Chairperson (1) of the Committee Union Minister of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Soe Win, committee members Deputy Ministers and other responsible officials.
The Chairperson of the National Committee stated that December 3 is recognized annually as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, designated to improve the quality of life of persons with disabilities, ensure equal rights and opportunities, and promote dignity and recognition of their abilities.
He noted that Myanmar has been observing this day since 1994, making this year the 32nd commemoration. He added that the theme set for this year is “Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress.” He emphasized that disability-related issues are matters of social development that concern society as a whole, and that the public must understand and accept the rights, dignity, and abilities of persons with disabilities with new perspectives and increased awareness.
This was followed by the screening of a video message from UN Secretary-General Mr. António Guterres, along with a commemorative documentary for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Afterwards, students from the School for the Deaf (Yangon), a young girl from the Yangon Juvenile Training School for Disabled Children, and students from the Kyi Myin Daing School for the Blind presented songs and dances in tribute.
Union Minister U Tun Ohn and Union Minister Dr. Soe Win then presented certificates of honor, commendation letters, and cash awards to the winners of the national-level essay competition and the basic education high school-level composition competition. They also presented honoraria to the performing students with disabilities. The Union Ministers and attendees, then visited and supported the photo exhibition commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
