More than 869,000 stimulant tablets worth an estimated 1.3 billion kyats were seized in Pyawbwe Township of Mandalay Region, according to the Myanmar Police Force.

The drugs were seized on September 4 from a minibus near Kan Swe Village on the Pyawbwe–Natmauk road, and two men were arrested. Further investigations led to the arrest of more suspects involved in transporting and selling the drugs. Police also seized several vehicles, cash and additional stimulant tablets.

It is learnt that the drugs were transported from southern Shan State through Yamethin and Aunglan to Ann Township in Rakhine State, with plans to send them onward to Maungdaw and across the border. Some suspects remain at large and investigations are continuing. Those arrested are being prosecuted under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, while authorities are also taking action to seize assets and profits linked to drug trafficking under Anti-Money Laundering Law.
