Preparations are being made to prevent fire outbreaks and mitigate the risks associated with high temperatures caused by the El Niño phenomenon.
On Friday, members of the Fire Brigade conducted fire prevention and safety awareness activities at hotels, restaurants and markets in Yangon. The activities aimed to raise public awareness of fire hazards and promote preventive measures, especially during periods of extreme heat.
Assistant Director, Kyaukdata District Fire Services Department, Kyaw Khaing Soe said "The high temperatures associated with El Niño pose an increased risk of fire. To prevent fire incidents, we conduct fire safety awareness activities at high-rise buildings, restaurants, and markets. These activities include practical demonstrations and educational talks. We also distribute informational pamphlets to raise public awareness of fire prevention and safety. In addition, we inspect emergency exits and review fire safety measures in high-rise buildings to ensure that appropriate safety arrangements are in place."
The Fire Brigade is encouraging business operators, building owners, employees and members of the public to remain vigilant and take responsibility for fire prevention.
Thant Zaw Oo, General Than Lwin Hotel, General Manager said "Our hotel building was previously used as a market. We converted it into a hotel facility in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Fire Brigade Department. We have now implemented all the necessary fire safety measures in compliance with the 2020 Fire Safety Code. In addition, we conduct regular inspections as part of our long-term maintenance efforts and carry out fire drills once a month."
Through continued public awareness campaigns, regular inspections and cooperation between the Fire Brigade and the private sector, efforts are being made to strengthen fire safety preparedness, reduce the likelihood of fire outbreaks and protect lives and property.
