Mandalay Region Chief Minister U Myo Aung, together with Central Command Commander, regional ministers, and officials, visited the Sedawgyi Dam in Madaya Township on November 28 to inspect maintenance and operations.

During the visit, officials explained ongoing repair work on the power control room and transformers to ensure electricity can be transmitted to the Aung Pinle substation in Mandalay. They also reported on preparations to restart Turbine No. 2 and inspections on damaged transformers for Turbine No. 1.

The Chief Minister and the commander also viewed water release operations for winter paddy and dry-season crops. Irrigation officials reported on dam safety inspections, maintenance plans, water storage levels, and water distribution for the 2025–2026 farming season in Mandalay, Madayaa, Patheingyi, and Amarapura townships.

Cash rewards were also given to staff working at the dam and hydropower station. Sedawgyi Dam, located near Sedawgyi village in Madaya Township, was built between 1976 and 1987. It is an earth-concrete-rock fill dam measuring 4,120 feet long and 133 feet high, with a full storage capacity of 363,000 acre-feet.

The dam supplies irrigation water to over 93,000 acres of farmland and generates 25 megawatts of electricity, producing about 134 million kWh annually. As of November 28, 2025, the dam held 296,980 acre-feet of water.
