








Yangon Region Government organized a ceremony to mark the 16 Days of Activism for the Elimination of Violence Against Women” on Thursday.
Chief Minister U Soe Thein attended the ceremony, and made an opening remark, urging all to cooperate in an effort for eliminating violence against women and to support the victims physically and mentally for health and social affairs.
Violence against women affects not only each woman who suffers but also causes harm, losses, and negative consequences for families, communities, and society. The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement is carrying out prevention, protection, response, and support measures related to violence against women in cooperation with relevant government departments and organizations.

Social Welfare Department, Lae Yin Win said " The event is held to widely acknowledge the public on digital violence. We held knowledge sharing sessions and talk shows at schools in collaboration with the partner departments. Likewise, display booths selling the products from Women Training Center running under our department were opened during the event. In the future, we will raise awareness on violence via digital system to eliminate violence on women and children under legal procedures."
Chairperson, Yangon Region Maternal and Child Welfare Supervisory Committee, Hinn Zar Chi Oo said " Today’s event is organized by Yangon Region Government for the Region's Women Affairs Committee. On November 28, the committee will organize the Learning Hub event at the Yangon Education Degree College, inviting 540 students and teachers from 14 districts. The event will focus on legal procedure, law, health, IT and violence."
Myanmar is implementing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, the Beijing Platform for Action, and the provisions and action plans under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), in line with national policies.
Chairperson, Myanmar Cultural Heritage Preservation Committee, Sanda Khin said " To eliminate digital violence against women in various sectors like domestic violence, workplace violence and violence in children, 16 Days of Activism to end gender-based violence is taking place under the management of Yangon Region Government. The event raises the awareness on digital violence knowledge among women and children.
The campaign on 16 Days of Activism for the Elimination of Violence Against Women is held annually not only in Myanmar but across the world. This year's campaign is being held under the theme: “UNiTE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls” from 25 November to 10 December.
