Global Biosecurity Conference: Myanmar delegation attends the conference in Russia

Deputy Minister for Science and Technology Dr. Aung Zeya, led a Myanmar delegation to the 5th International Scientific and Practical Conference on Global Biosecurity held in Sochi, Russia on June 10, at the invitation of Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov and Chairperson of Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-being Dr. Anna Popova.

The opening ceremony featured reading of a message from Russian President Vladimir Putin, and speeches by the Deputy Foreign Minister, and the Chairperson, who spoke on historical and current global biosecurity challenges, including biological weapons threats and disease outbreaks. The role of modern technology, including AI, in both advancing and threatening biosecurity was highlighted.

In the Plenary Session, Speakers from Brazil, Uganda, China, and global health organizations shared experiences on disease control, international cooperation under the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), and the use of mobile labs donated by Russia. Later, the Myanmar delegation toured biosecurity exhibits, including high-tech lab equipment and mobile research labs, where they engaged in discussions with Russian experts.
