Continuous heavy rains in Minbu (Sagu) Township have caused flooding in farmlands, damaging over 4,000 acres of sesame crops, according to the Township Land Management Committee.
Magway Region Chief Minister U Tint Lwin and officials visited the affected areas on Saturday to inspect the damage. Floodwaters entered sesame fields in 27 village tracts, impacting 4,015 acres of summer sesame and 67 acres of monsoon sesame, affecting a total of 1,154 farmers.
During his visit, the Chief Minister urged farmers to adapt to changing weather patterns by adopting climate-resilient farming methods, such as mixed cropping, proper drainage systems, and modern planting techniques. He also emphasized the importance of shifting to improved agricultural practices to minimize losses from extreme weather. Officials discussed recovery options and provided guidance on replanting and technical support.
The Chief Minister pledged to coordinate with relevant departments to support affected farmers and assist with crop replacement.
