Sino-Myanmar cooperation: MoE UM received Chinese ambassador to Myanmar

Union Minister for Energy, U Ko Ko Lwin, received Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Myanmar Ms. Ma Jia, at Yay Nant Thar Hall of the Ministry in Nay Pyi Taw in the morning on June 9.

At the meeting, the Union Minister explained the current status of the implementation of agreements made by the leaders of the two countries regarding cooperation in the energy sector, and discussed future plans for continued collaboration.

Following that, both sides held frank and open discussions on strengthening and enhancing energy sector cooperation between China and Myanmar, encouraging Chinese companies to invest in offshore blocks in Myanmar for oil and natural gas exploration, drilling, and production, collaborating on a new refinery project, which will utilize crude oil from the Southeast Asia Crude Oil Pipeline, accelerating the implementation of energy sector projects under the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor (CMEC) and the broader Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) currently being implemented by China.

Furthermore, Ambassador Ms. Ma Jia stated that China is committed to inviting more companies to invest in Myanmar’s offshore projects, China will support and collaborate on the implementation of the new oil refinery project using crude oil from the Southeast Asia Crude Oil Pipeline, in accordance with previous agreements, and China will continue to assist in further enhancing energy sector cooperation between the two countries.
