Fishery Research Grant: Management Committee held its meeting

On June 5th, a meeting of the Fishery Research Grant Management Committee was convened virtually. Committee Chairman and Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation Dr. Aung Gyi delivered a remark, saying that the Memorandum of Understanding for Fisheries-Related Research Grants was signed on February 14, 2022.

He highlighted that research projects had been successfully implemented within the fisheries sector of the Tanintharyi Region. Through this initiative, the infrastructure of research centers was further developed during the three years period. He also stressed the need to strive for development of research works on fish and shrimp farming.

According to the recent forum result, the Deputy Minister urged for collaboration with China and the Philippines in order to promote of freshwater fish farming. Under the Fisheries-Related Research Grant Memorandum of Understanding, the ongoing projects include research activities led by the Fisheries Department, specifically focusing on investigating the occurrence of diseases in aquatic animals.

Deputy Minister Dr. Aung Gyi stated that efforts are being made to ensure that fish diseases do not occur in the shrimp farming industry of Tanintharyi Region and to provide strong support for proactive disease prevention measures. The attendees reported on further development and progress of Myanmar's fisheries sector.
