Meeting on R&T development: MoALI UM delivered an opening speech

The Coordination Meeting on Research and Technological Development of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation was held at the Nawarat Hall of the Department of Agricultural Research in Zeyathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw in the morning of June 3rd.

At the meeting, Union Minister U Min Naung delivered opening remarks, stating that although the agricultural sector continues to contribute significantly to the country’s foreign income, there remains a considerable gap when compared to the agricultural export value of neighboring countries.

He emphasized the need to enhance land utilization to increase agricultural production and to prioritize the development of high-value crops through improved production of essential raw materials. Following this, the Deputy Director General of the Department of Agricultural Research presented the department’s activities for the 2024–2025 fiscal year and outlined upcoming plans for 2025–2026.

Officials from the Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Mechanization Department, Livestock Research Department, and the Agricultural University also explained ongoing collaborative research projects with the Department of Agricultural Research.

Deputy Ministers reviewed and discussed the presentations sector by sector, while the Union Minister provided additional input on operational requirements. The research and technology development coordination meeting is scheduled to continue on June 3 and 4, with participation from Deputy Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, Director Generals, Rectors, researchers, and agricultural experts.

Heads of Regions and States agriculture departments and officials from regional agricultural research stations are expected to join the discussions online.
