Tanintharyi Region Chief Minister U Myat Ko, together with relevant officials, attended the opening ceremony of the new international border entry/exit gate building located on Strand Road in Annawa Ward, Kawthaung Township, on the morning of June 2.
The new building was officially inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by Chief Minister U Myat Ko, Region Chief Justice, Region Government Ministers, and responsible officials. The Chief Minister also pressed a button to unveil the signboard of the new international border entry/exit gate building.
Next, the Chief Minister and officials sprayed the scented water at the new building’s commemorative plaque.
Chief Minister U Myat Ko then remarked that cross-border trade has been developing, with more foreign vessels and motorboats docking at the main town jetty. As the times advance, the former building constructed around 60 years ago, was no longer sufficient. Therefore, this new building was constructed, incorporating Myanmar's traditional cultural designs, to enhance Myanmar-Thailand bilateral trade, tourism, and socio-economic ties, and to ensure an organized and internationally standardized border crossing system.
Following this, Managing Director of Naung Yoe Myanmar Development Co., Ltd. U Tin Soe, which undertook the construction, presented details about the building process. The Township elder ဦးအင်ရှိန်, then expressed words of gratitude.
To commemorate the opening, the Ranong ရနောင်း District Township Border Committee presented a souvenir gift, which the Chief Minister received and reciprocated with a commemorative gift.
After that, the Chief Minister and attendees toured the interior of the new border gate building and observed the operations. They watched as responsible officials checked passports, border passes, temporary passes, and processed foreign visitors and locals traveling between Kawthaung, Myanmar, and Ranong, Thailand, ensuring orderly border procedures.
