EPEDC Meeting Held: SAC member delivered the opening remarks

The Electric Power and Energy Development Commission's meeting 3/2025 was held at the meeting hall of the State Administration Council Office in Nay Pyi Taw on May 29.

The meeting was attended by the Commission Chairman Member of the State Administration Council, Deputy Prime Minister, and Union Minister for the Office of the Prime Minister, Admiral Tin Aung San along with the Commission's Vice Chairmen and members, Chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Council, and responsible officials. Chief Ministers from regions and states joined the meeting online.

First, Commission Chairman Admiral Tin Aung San delivered opening remarks. He stated that short-term, medium-term, and long-term plans are being implemented to ensure the country’s energy and electricity security. He noted that, in the energy sector, beyond the regular methods of extracting oil and natural gas from existing oil fields, efforts are being made to adopt technologies such as AI, water flooding, and hydraulic fracturing. Additionally, steps are being taken to implement the "Standard Well" system, as well as to accelerate the start of new offshore projects.

He further mentioned plans to upgrade the Thanlyin oil refinery and other petrochemical plants, construct new facilities, and enhance and expand the pipeline network, all of which are being implemented in accordance with strategic plans.

Next, Commission and Vice Chair Union Minister for Electric Power U Nyan Tun, and Vice Chair (2) Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin, along with the Commission’s Secretary and Joint Secretary, presented updates on the implementation status of the decisions made during the 2/2025 Commission meeting by relevant Union-level ministries and the respective regions and states in the electricity and energy sectors.

Following that, Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman and the Chief Ministers of Regions and States presented ongoing and upcoming projects and programs in their respective areas. Participants from various ministries and organizations also reported on the implementation status of their respective responsibilities and shared suggestions and discussions related to the development of the electricity and energy sectors. Then, the Chairman of the Commission delivered closing remarks, and the meeting was concluded.
