Renovation Work: Visiting the Upper Paung Laung Hydropower Plant

On 17th May, Union Minister for Electric Power U Nyan Tun accompanied by departmental officials made inspection at damaged Upper Paung Laung Hydropower Plant due to heavy rainfall caused by Typhoon Yagi in Pyinmana Township.

The Union Minister instructed on systematic data compiling of tasks implemented during 2024-2025 fiscal year, further task implementation within current fiscal year and silt recovery in Paung Laung Dam.

The Union Minister also emphasized on rapid restoration and preparation process before rainy season and accelerate the tasks for timely power distribution ensuring the safety of the workers and systematic usage of equipment and machine.

Then, the Union Minister and party inspected the water inflow of the dam, silt condition, resilience of the dam and retaining wall and gabion wall construction. At the hydropower plant, the Union Minister inspected the renovation of the damaged buildings, and restoration, upgrading and reinstallation of machines and equipment and provided necessary instructions.

At present, the silt recovery process of the dam has already completed as well as 85% of civil works and 43 percent of the repairing of 2 power generators have been completed.

On arrival at Middle Paung Laung Hydropower project, the Union Minister instructed on timely implementation of the project and inspected the newly constructed middle Paung Laung river crossing bridge. The Middle Paung Laung Hydropower project is being initiated, aiming to distribute 592 million KW hours of electricity annually. At present, 8.50% of the project is completed.
