





The opening ceremony of 14th Biennial Myanmar Conference of Anesthesia and Intensive Care 2025 was held under the theme “Dealing with Anesthesia Crisis: Empowering Knowledge and Sustainable Practice” at Melia Hotel in Yangon on 17th May.
Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win attended the ceremony and made an opening speech. In his speech, the Union Minister highlighted Myanmar’s efforts in implementing Resilience Health System in accordance with the healthcare system, practicing within the nation.
The Union Minister appreciated the strenuous efforts of specialists such as anesthetists, surgeons, gynecologists and many other healthcare personnel during disaster period despite numerous difficulties and challenges due to March 28 devastating earthquake. He added that the Ministry of Health is making preparations to ensure sufficient and effective healthcare services for potential natural disasters.
Likewise, the government is providing necessary equipment such as liquid oxygen tanks and anesthesia machines at district and township hospitals to reduce the costs of surgery. In order to develop human resource in healthcare industry, the necessary short-term training courses are also conducted as well as the scholar programs.
The Union Minister encouraged the attendees to apply the knowledge and experiences gained form the conference in their workplaces, providing secure and efficient healthcare services to public. Then, a welcome message video of World Federation of Societies of Anesthesiologists (WFSA) President Dr. Carolina Haylock Loor was screened. It was followed by the welcome speech of the chairperson of Myanmar Society of Anesthesiologists.
The ceremony was then inaugurated by cutting ceremonial ribbons, after which, the Union Minister and officials made a tour to displayed posters, medicine and equipment.
The 14th Biennial Myanmar Conference of Anesthesia and Intensive Care 2025 is set to be held from 17th to 18th May with the participation of specialists from Myanmar, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, India and Brunei. Prior to the conference, 3 workshops were conducted on May 16th as pre-conference activity.
