Sports Sector: Union Minister attends 45th OCA General Assembly

Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Jeng Phang Naung Taung attended the 45th OCA General Assembly which was held from 11th to 12th May in Kuwait.

On the 11th, the delegation attended the General Assembly where Vice-Chairman of Asia Olympic Council Mr.Timothy Fok delivered the opening speech,  and Chairman of Kuwait Olympic Committee Sheikh Fahad Al Sabah and Chairman of International Olympic Committee Mr. Thomas Bach delivered the speeches respectively.

On the second day, the Myanmar delegation participated in various matters including the approval of the meeting minute and reports of the vice-chairs of 5 regional zones within one year, presentation by Chairman of World Anti-Doping Agency and clarifications by the officials of Organizing Committees from  Hangzhou 2023 Asian Games, Harbin 2025 Asian Winter Games, Bahrain 2025 Asian Youth Games, Aichi Nagoya 2026 and Riyadh 2026 Asian Indoor and Martial Art Games.

Officials and chairmen from the International Olympics Committee, Olympics Solidarity and National Olympics Federation and respective committees made supplementary discussions and set the date and location for the upcoming general assembly. During his stay in Kuwait, the Union Minister met with officials from the respective Asia sports federations and made discussions on the implementations of Myanmar Olympics Committee for enhancing Myanmar’s sports sector, participations in the international sports competitions and plans to open training courses for refrees and instructors.

The Union Minister also held discussions with the officials from 33rd South East Asian Games Federation Council from Thailand regarding the matters on the participation of Myanmar’s sports contigent at the 33rd SEA Games which will be held from 9th to 20th December as well as training places and accomodations. The delegation led by the Union Minister arrived back at Yangon International Airport on 15th May.
