







Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Prime Minister Vice Senior General Soe Win and wife Daw Than Than Nwe attended a dinner reception marking the 80th anniversary of the Russian Federation’s victory in the Great Patriotic War in Yangon on Friday evening.
The event began with the national anthems of Myanmar and Russia, followed by a commemorative speech delivered by Russian Ambassador to Myanmar, Mr. Iskander Azizov. A video message on the history and address delivered by the Russian President Vladimir Putin, during the May 9th victory day parade in Moscow was also screened as part of the commemoration. This was followed by a dinner hosted by the Russian Ambassador, featuring traditional Russian songs and dance performances by a Russian cultural troupe.
The Soviet Union joined World War II on June 22nd, 1941 to resist the Nazi invasion, marking the beginning of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945). The war concluded on May 8th, 1945 when the German Instrument of Surrender was signed in Berlin, with the official end of hostilities occurring in the early hours of May 9, Moscow time. In recognition of this victory, the Soviet Union declared May 9 as Victory Day, a national public holiday that continues to be observed in Russia today.
