Pupils returned Monday to Notre-Dame-de-Toutes-Aides school in Nantes, four days after a 15-year-old girl was fatally stabbed by a second-year student.

The attack on Thursday afternoon left the girl dead and three others injured, prompting a swift response from police, emergency services and army officers. The attacker was restrained by a teacher and arrested at the scene as the school was evacuated and Rue des Épinettes closed. Students were confined to classrooms during the incident, and families were informed before a controlled evacuation began.

The school, which serves around 2,000 students from nursery through high school, has since put psychological support in place. Authorities said the psychological profile of the suspect remains under investigation, with more details expected from the Nantes public prosecutor. Prime Minister François Bayrou has called for intensified checks for knives in French schools.
