Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez told parliament on Wednesday that a court order against his wife, Begoña Gómez, exceeds "all reasonable limits". The judge ordered Gómez to stand trial for alleged corruption and influence peddling, banned her from leaving the country, and mandated bi-weekly court appearances citing a flight risk.

The two-year investigation stems from complaints by an anti-corruption group with far-right connections. It targets her business dealings, activities related to a public university, and claims she misused her position to influence government contracts. Both Gómez and Sánchez vehemently denied any wrongdoing.
