Chairman of the State Administration Council, Prime Minister Senior General Thadoe Maha Thray Sithu Thadoe Thiri Thudhamma Min Aung Hlaing sent a message of greetings to the 77th Chin National Day celebration, which falls on 20th February 2025.
In his message, the Senior General first extended his greetings and best wishes to all Chin ethnic brethren and all the Union-born national people on the auspicious occasion of the 77th Chin National Day, which falls on 20 February 2025. He noted that the 20th of February was chosen as "Chin National Day" after the public meeting in Falam in 1948 abolished the feudal administrative system and established a democratic local governance system.
This day has been celebrated with pride for 77 years. In the Union of Myanmar, the Chin ethnic people, along with all other Union brethren, have lived together as one family for centuries, sharing the same land and water, united in heart and mind, which has allowed the nation to stand with dignity and grandeur in the world. During the times when Myanmar lost its independence and sovereignty, the Union spirit of all ethnic groups enabled the country to regain its freedom.
He paid tribute to the Chin national heroes who participated in the resistance against British colonial rule, the struggle for independence, and the drafting of the three constitutions of 1947, 1974, and 2008. He highlighted that some areas of Chin State, along with other parts of the country, are facing unrest, acts of terrorism, lawlessness, and destructive activities aimed at undermining the State.
These pose significant dangers to the nation. The Senior General warned against the divisive tactics of internal and external destructive forces that seek to sow hatred and discord among the Union-born national brethren, undermining the bonds of kinship and friendship that have existed for thousands of years.
He urged all ethnic people, including the Chin, to unite and work together to eliminate violence and unrest, and to restore peace and stability. Furthermore, he emphasized that the democracy and federal system they aspire to build can only be achieved when armed conflicts in the regions cease. Only then can free and fair elections be held.
The State Administration Council is committed to implementing the NCA agreements to end ongoing armed conflicts and has engaged in discussions with some ethnic armed groups, continuing to offer open dialogue for lasting peace. He called on all ethnic people, including the Chin, to join hands with the government in striving for the cessation of armed conflicts, as national stability and the rule of law are crucial for the country's development and nation-building. He concluded by expressing his hope that the Chin ethnic people, rooted in the spirit of the Union and patriotism, will contribute to the interests of Chin State and the Union.
