The Union Minister for the Ministry of Women's Affairs, Dr. Thet Thet Zin, attended the opening ceremony of the Women's Development and Capacity Building Program held at Nay Pyi Taw State Academy and delivered an opening speech.
The Union Minister stated that Myanmar's female population accounts for approximately 53 percent of the total population, representing more than half of the country's population. To enable women to carry out their capacities more effectively, the Ministry of Women's Affairs was newly established on April 10, 2026, and is primarily responsible for women's development and protection activities. She noted that this program is being held as a pre-event activity for Myanmar Women's Day, which falls on July 3, 2026, and is also being implemented as a 100-day plan. Arrangements are being made to open the program at Nay Pyi Taw State Academy, the Institute of Nursing (Nay Pyi Taw), and the Yezin Agricultural University within the Union Territory, with this being the first opening at Nay Pyi Taw State Academy. She also expressed her wish that Nay Pyi Taw State Academy would provide support and assistance in conducting research and surveys related to women's development. As part of the pre-event activities for Myanmar Women's Day 2026, capacity-building programs, fundraising fairs, tree-planting events, and paper-reading sessions will be carried out. Officials from the NSA as well as students will also be invited, she added.
Afterward, the program continued with introductions of the trainers by the course instructors. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Ministers from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Women's Affairs, the Rector and officials from Nay Pyi Taw State Academy, and 100 trainees, it’s reported.
