Forum on development of aquaculture: Tanintharyi Region CM gave an opening speech

Tanintharyi Region Chief Minister U Myat Ko, along with Region Government Ministers and departmental officials, attended a forum on the development of aquaculture and research activities held at the meeting room of Myeik Corporation Public Company Limited in Myeik Township on January 16. The forum focused on the establishment of a research fund for the fisheries sector, in line with a memorandum of understanding for the development of aquaculture and research activities for fish, shrimp, oyster, algae and aquatic animals.

At the forum, Region Chief Minister highlighted that aquaculture is an essential part of national development. He stated that the region government is actively supporting the development of aquaculture industries in the region. He also mentioned that businesses should work toward breeding and producing viable offspring. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of collaboration with Myeik University and other related institutions to support the development of valuable marine resources, and urged coordination and integration in executing these activities.

Following this, Tanintharyi Region Minister for Economic Affairs U Maung Gyi discussed the current situation regarding the breeding and production of aquatic animals, market conditions, and aquaculture research activities. Deputy Director-General of the Fisheries Department U Myint Zin Htoo clarified the objectives of the forum, continuous collaboration for sustainable development in the sector, and the necessary points for compliance.The forum was officially opened by the Chairman of Tanintharyi Region Fisheries Association, U Hla Than, who extended a welcoming speech and provided details on the research fund's activities.

At the forum, researchers and experts will present 14 research papers, which will be discussed by scholars, Region GovernmentMinisters, departmental officials, members of the Tanintharyi Region Fisheries Association, aquaculture entrepreneurs, and university students. The forum discussions were set to take place over two days, January 16 and 17.
