Inspection of rural developments: MCRD UM inspected rural development projects

Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development U Hla Moe, along with Tanintharyi Region Chief Minister U Myat Ko and relevant officials, conducted an inspection of rural development activities being implemented in the Taninthayi Region on January 14. 

Initially, the Union Minister and party met with Region Chief Minister, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Myanmar Ms. Ma Jia, and officials at the Victoria Cliff Hotel in Kawthaung. They discussed the current state of Myanmar-China cooperation, rural development activities in the Lanchang-Mekhong area, poverty reduction efforts, and ongoing development projects.

They also reviewed upcoming collaborative work in the region. Following this, the Union Minister, the Chief Minister, and Ms. Ma Jia attended a ceremony at the Minzuthaka Hall in Kawthaung to celebrate the successful completion of the Kan Maw Gyi Village and Yay Ngan Gyi Village Solar-Powered Mini Grid and Water Supply Projects under the Mekong-Lancang Special Fund (2022).

After watching a video showing the implementation of the projects, the Union Minister noted that the two projects, funded by the Mekong-Lancang Special Fund (2022), the Union Government, relevant companies, and the local village residents, exemplify a successful government-community-private sector partnership.

He encouraged the local villagers to take ownership of the equipment provided and ensure proper maintenance to keep the projects sustainable. Ms. Ma Jia also spoke about the ongoing cooperation between China and Myanmar, as well as the efforts in Tanintharyi Region to continue rural development projects.

The Region Chief Minister U Myat Ko shared updates on the plans and progress. The Manager of Mega Global Green Automation Company then presented the project's implementation status, and a local villager expressed gratitude for the work done.

After that, the Union Minister, Chief Minister and Ms. Ma Jia, along with the relevant officials visited exhibition booths showcasing the project's documented photographs. The Union Minister later met with the villagers of Kan Maw Gyi, Yay Ngan Gyi, neighboring villages in Kawthaung Township.

He discussed rural development issues and coordinated actions based on the villagers' concerns. Following this, the Union Minister and party visited the Light-Infantry Battalion (262) Primary School in Kawthaung, where they met with teachers and students, listening to their feedback and offering support.

The team also visited the Aung Ba village, where they inspected a solar-powered Mini Grid lighting project implemented with a 60% investment from the state fund, 20% from the company and 20% from the community.

The team observed the installation of additional 120.64 kW diesel generators, ensuring the project meets the set standards for power supply. The Union Minister stressed that the work should be completed on time and meet quality standards, and he coordinated actions based on the feedback of local villagers regarding ongoing development activities.
