






A work coordination meeting on excavation and restoration of ancient lakes and waterways in Bagan Archaeological Zone was held at the meeting hall of Bagan Archaeological Museum on Saturday.
Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Tin Oo Lwin attended the meeting and gave a speech. The Union Minister said among 91 ancient lakes, excavation and restoration works are being implemented by dividing two phases. 47 lakes have been completed to date while the processes are underway at 11 lakes.
The excavation and restoration tasks for remaining 26 lakes will be implemented with the help of the Ministries of Religious Affairs and Culture, Border Affairs, Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, and Cooperatives and Rural Development. He added that under the guidance of the Head of State, restoring of 3 main waterways for better drainage system has to be carried out for proper flow of water and avoiding inundation. The attendees later made reports on current work implementation processes.
After the meeting, the Union Minister and party inspected the repairing of road near Tharabar Gate, being implemented by the Ministry of Border Affairs. At the Sulamani Temple, the Union Minister and party inspected the completion process of mural painting cleaning and Tempered Glass installing and paving platform. They then visited pagoda No. 752 which is constructed with the donation of the Ministry.
Subsequently, they inspected the excavation works at Kanthit Lake (Pyatha Lake) and Myay Nae Lay Lake-3 and installation of lighting rod at Alodaw Pyay Pagoda. They then made inspections on cleaning processes within Bagan Archaeological Zone.
The cleaning activities within Bagan Archaeological Zone have been started in July by dividing 11 areas, and among them area C and E have already completed the tasks while area D and F have completed 70% of its works.
