Kayah State Government is undertaking rehabilitation measures following the damages caused by terrorists in Loikaw, the capital city.

On November 13th and 14th, 2023, the KNPP, KNDF, and PDF terrorists raided Loikaw University, using faculty and students as human shields while forcefully abducting individuals.

The incident resulted in the destruction of public infrastructure within the university compound, including office furniture, vehicles, and teaching aids. As a consequence, Loikaw University was temporarily closed, impacting the development of qualified human resources for the state.

Following the restoration of peace in Loikaw, through collaborative efforts of the Tatmadaw, State Government, Myanmar Police Force, and local community, plans are underway to reopen Loikaw University as soon as possible. On Saturday, cleaning and rehabilitation tasks commenced within the university compound.

Chief Minister U Zaw Myo Tin and officials oversaw the activities where progress reports on ongoing work and future plans were provided. The Chief Minister and party also inspected the 5-storey Guest House of the Kayah State Government, which terrorists had used as a base during the attack.

The Chief Minister instructed officials to systematically document damages, assess salvageable items, and prioritize rehabilitation efforts. They also visited the Kayah State Cultural Museum, where they inspected booths featuring Kayah tribes, traditional utensils, instruments, historical records, and the Chieftain Gallery—areas destroyed by terrorists, damaging ancient heritage.

At Loikaw Airport, the Chief Minister received updates on plans for reopening the facility. These coordinated efforts reflect the commitment of Kayah State Government to restore normalcy and preserve cultural heritage in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in Loikaw.
