

Eight vessels commissioned by the Myanma Port Authority were inaugurated into service at a ceremony held at Pansodan Jetty in Yangon on Saturday. The new vessels include a 60-meter Multipurpose Buoy Handling Vessel, two sets of earth moving vessels, and three harbor launches.
Member of the State Administration Council, Deputy Prime Minister, and Union Minister for Transport and Communications, General Mya Tun Oo, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech emphasizing the development of the port industry to support the sustainable progress of the nation. He urged all stakeholders to make cooperative efforts to reach the Smart Port level through Electronic Port by means of Digital Transformation.
Myanmar possesses over 1,200 nautical miles of coastal area, with a sea exit connecting to the international maritime network, earning it a reputation as a Rimland Country or Maritime State. Maritime transportation is directly linked with maritime trade, which is crucial for the socio-economic development of the nation.
According to the statistics of the Ministry of Commerce, maritime trade yielded over 25 billion US dollars, accounting for 75% of the total trade volume in the 2022-2023 fiscal year. In order to provide better services in port handling processes, the Myanmar Port Authority constructed eight new vessels, spending over 20 million US dollars.
