Chairman of the Food Policy Commission President U Min Aung Hlaing presided over the commission's meeting at the President's Office in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday.

In his opening address, the President called for effective and coordinated development of the agriculture and livestock sectors, saying improved productivity would raise the incomes of nearly half of the population engaged in the sectors, strengthen food security and improve socio-economic conditions.

He urged the implementation of solar-powered river irrigation projects to ensure year-round water supply for farming, wider use of locally produced natural fertilizers and the adoption of modern agricultural technologies, including scientific farming methods, IT, AI and mechanized equipment.

Commission members then discussed plans to expand livestock breeding, animal feed production and distribution, improve quality crop and oil crops production, ensure sufficient water for agriculture and livestock and promote exports of surplus products.

The discussion also included strengthening disaster preparedness through reserve seeds and veterinary medicines, expanding mechanized farming, adopting integrated farming systems, increasing value-added production and enhancing cooperation with experts, associations and the private sector to obtain international certification.

In his concluding remarks, the President urged all to review the discussions in detail with the relevant ministries, along with the drafting of action plans to ensure the successful implementation of the projects.
