China's Mideast special envoy meets Assad in Syria

Syrian President Bashar Assad met China's Special Envoy to the Middle East, Zhai Jun, in Damascus on Saturday.

Assad praised the Chinese mediation that eventually led to the agreement between Saudi Arabia and Iran saying it will have a positive impact on the stability of the Middle East.

He also said that Damascus "does not forget" that China sided with Syria during the 12-year conflict and its help following the February 6 earthquake that hit Türkiye and Syria, killing more than 50,000 people, including over 6,000 in Syria.
