Jaishankar flags risks of weaponising finance & resources at Bloomberg New Economy Forum

Indian External Affairs Minister S.Jaishankar on Wednesday highlighted the growing importance of economic interdependence and the risks posed by the weaponisation of strategic resources and financial systems in the changing global order.

Jaishankar also said that India was not comfortable being described as a ‘middle power’, arguing that the country’s population, economic size and growth potential made the term limiting. Day 2 of the 2026 Bloomberg New Economy Forum is underway in New Delhi under the theme “A World in Play: Defining the New Levers of Power”.
