





Union Minister for Electric Power U Thaung Han together with the Commander of North-East Command and departmental officials inspected implmentation of Upper Yeywa hydropower project that is being undertaken by Construction No.3 of the Department of Hydropower Implementation on Dokhtawaddy(Myit Nge River) about 20-mile south of Kyaukme in the northern Shan State on Tuesday.
At the briefing hall, the Union Minister and party looked into the scale model of the project, digging the earth of the main dam, measures for durability of the dam and project tasks. Officials reported on salient points of the project, construction tasks related to the project and future plans.
In response to the report, the Union Minister stressed on preparations for concrete laying on the main dam, work site safety, the tasks meeting set standard, timely completion of the tasks and emphasis on trial-run on generating power in March 2015. Later, the Union Minister and party looked into preparation for machine, vehicles, machinery and equipment that are necessary for RCC laying at the work site of the main dam and completion of laying concrete on the fundation.
The main dam is a type of the Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) one and it is 883-ft in length and 335-ft in height. The Union Minister and party then inspected the construction site of water intake building and laying concrete at the building and the transition Zone of diversion tunnel.
They then looked into the work site of power plant, material storage factory and arrival of materials and maintenance. Upon completion of Upper Yeywa Hydropower project, it will generate 1,409 million Kilowatt hours of electricity annually with 4 generators. The project is implemented to supply power across Myanmar through the National Grid network.
The type of the main dam will be RCC one and now the whole project has completed 53.22 percent. On the same day, the Union Minister also held meeting with the State/District/Township Electrical Engineers in Shan State (North), electrical officers and staffs at the State Electrical Engineer Office in Lashio and called for completion of the tasks with the target time, security measures and beautifying of the office buildings. The Union Minister then cordially meet the staff, fulfilled the needs and presented cash and foodstuff.
