




The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed on 1st March, 2023 to implement three wind power projects: the Ann wind power project (150 MW), Gwa wind power project (100 MW) and Thandwe wind power project (110 MW). The construction works of the project will start for the first phase of the 50 MW Gwa project in December 2023 and the utmost efforts will be made to ensure three projects to be able to generate power by 2025.
Zaw Win Naing (Dy DG), Department of Electric Power and Planning, said " The 3 Wind Power Electricity Projects will be implementing totally 360 megawatts including the 150 Megawatt in Ann Township, 100 megawatt in Gwa Township and 110 megawatt in Thandwe Township."
The Department of Electric Power Planning under the Ministry of Electric Power signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) on wind power projects to be launched in An, Gwa and Thandwe townships of Rakhine State with the Primus Advanced Technologies Limited, Asia Ecoenergy Development Limited and Yunnan Machinery and Equipment Import and Export Co Ltd on 1stMarch.
Zaw Win Naing (Dy DG), Department of Electric Power and Planning, said " Since 2016, we signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). They will report the final feasibility study. After reported, they will continue to report Social Impact Assessment (ESIA). After that, we made the Power Purchase Agreement, Concession Agreement and Land Lease Agreement."
At the First step, the construction for 50 megawatt in Gwa Township in December 2023. The projects will be implemented with utmost efforts to ensure three projects for enabling to generate power by 2025. The generated wind power will be connected to the Nation Power Grid.
If the local residents have opportunity to access more electric power from this project, their socio–economic life will improve. According to the CO2 Emission Policy, this power projects will provide for Renewable Energy of the National Determination Contribution. The Companies will transfer to the Department of Electric Power and Planning after completing the period in line with the B.O.T contract.
