




As the pre-activity of Myanmar Health Sciences Conference (2023), with the support of the Medical Services Department of the Ministry of Health, the eye surgical operation was conducted to 75 cataract patients in North Okkalapa People’s Hospital from the 23rd to 27th February.
The program under the caring needs of our community (For changing lives) was jointly conducted by the Department of Ophthalmology of the University of Medicine-2 (Yangon) and the North Okkalapa People’s Hospital.
DrSoe Min Aung, Eye Specialist, North Okkalapa People’s Hospital, said "As the pre-activities of Myanmar Health Sciences Conference (2023), the eye surgery was performed to the cataract patients for two days. We regularly conduct eye surgical operation free of charge. But the collective eye surgery is conducted only when it is granted permission by the State. We performed operations to 40 people on the 1st day and 35 people on the 2nd day. After surgery, we examine once a week, and then once a month. We will make follow-up if necessary."
For the free eye surgical treatment, antiseptics for cataract surgery including eye lens and sunglasses were provided to eye patients.
Cataract patient, said " My eyesight has not been good since about 2 years ago. I can’t read the books. So, I come to the hospital for the eye treatment. I received eye surgery here and it is very convenient for me. They give free treatment."
Cataract patient, said " Before, my vision is black spot. Now, I see clearly my sight. We’d like to express thanks for the free eye surgery at the North Okkala People’s Hospital."
The Ophthalmic Outpatient Department (OPD) ofthe North Okkalapa People’s Hospital is opened from Monday to Friday at 9 am to 12 noon and the emergency patients are being given treatments at 24 hours.
