Chinlone in SEA Games: Myanmar expects to grab four gold prizes

Myanmar expects to grab four gold prizes with the traditional Chinlone (cane ball) Sport in the upcoming SEA Games to be hosted by Cambodia. 

Myanmar will take part in the 32ndSEA Games with over 20 types of sports including the traditional Chinlone (cane ball) sport which will be held from 5th to 17th May. The upcoming SEA Games includes 12 events of the traditional Chinlone (cane ball) sport– 12 prizes will be awarded. Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines will take part in the cane ball competition.

Chairman, Myanmar Chinlone Federation, Soe Naing , said " We had to go to Cambodia for many times and held a lot of meetings to add the traditional Chinlone (cane ball) sport to the upcoming SEA Games. Agreement reached and the Olympic Committee also agreed.We will try to get at least three or four prizes. Now, the traditional Chinlone (cane ball) sport has been on agenda of the 32nd SEA Games – we had to put much effort for that."

Starting from 2022 August, Myanmar Chinlone players are under training at the Nay Pyi Taw Sport Training Camp for the SEA Games. A total of 12 men and 12 women players will compete in nine events of the cane ball sport, it is learnt. Chinlone, one of Myanmar’s traditional sports, was included in the 2013 SEA Games, which was hosted by Myanmar.
