Issuance of OWIC: Program to help overseas workersnot to lose rights

To apply forOverseas Worker Identification Card (OWIC), passport for job (PJ) holders need to fill required data set by the Ministry of Labor. The holders who have been notified of the required data in safe migration telegram channelneed to reapply for the OWIC with necessary data and documents.

Director General, Department of Labor, Maung Maung Than, said " Although there are hundreds of people applying for the OWIC, those with necessary data and documents can receive the card. Those with incomplete data and documents declared in the safe migration telegramchannel. PJ type holders are allowedto work abroad only if they have the OWIC."

In order not to lose labor rights and to know the contact address and person in case of emergency for workers, plans are underway to conduct more training courses.

Director General, Department of Labor, Maung Maung Than, said " We have been working to issue the OWIC in a timely manner but the number of people applying for it is on the rise. Concerned departmental staff check the application whether it is complete or not. Names of those with incomplete data and documents will be announced on the safe migration telegram channel."

The training courses for those applying for the OWIC will cover knowledge sharing, do’s and don’ts related to the country where workers are going to work in, contact addresses and person.
